
Sarah Norris
Program Director
Mrs. Sarah Norris has been the Director of Choral Music at Mission Viejo High School since 2013, where she has transformed the program into one of Southern Orange County’s premier choral ensembles, earning top honors at state and national competitions, including Unanimous Superior ratings at the CMEA State Festival and a Grammy Distinguished School Semi-Finalist title. Under her leadership, the MVHS choirs have performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and collaborated with notable composers like Ola Gjeilo and Stacey Gibbs. Before MVHS, she directed the Laguna Hills High School choir program from 2007–2013, growing it from 35 to over 100 students and leading it to consistent success at festivals and competitions. A passionate performer and educator, Mrs. Norris holds a B.M. in Music Education from Chapman University, a Master’s in Teaching from San Diego Christian College, and credentials in both Music and English from California State University Fullerton. She has performed at renowned venues worldwide, including the Hollywood Bowl and Sydney Opera House, Carnagie Hall and worked under esteemed conductors like Eric Whitacre and Moses Hogan. In addition to directing school choirs and coaching musicals, she served in church music leadership roles from 2003–2019 and founded the Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter at MVHS. She lives with her husband Greg, also a musician, and their two children, Emily and Matthew.

John Zechiel
Accompanist
Having perfected pitch and a passion for playing both the piano and organ since the age of six, Mr. Zechiel graduated from USC Thorton School of Music in Los Angeles in 2009 where he earned an undergraduate degree in organ performance and again in 2010 with a master's degree in music education. He has been a resident accompanist for several choral music programs in the past and is currently a staff musician for San Clemente Presbyterian Church. In addition to playing organ and piano, Mr. Zechiel has owned and operated Zechiel Music Transcriptions since 2001 where he is known for being a top notch music transcriber, supporting directors all around the world. The Student Choir Council at Mission Viejo High School is a dedicated group of student leaders who play a vital role in supporting the success of the choir program. This council assists in planning concerts, organizing social events, leading student-run rehearsals, and fostering a strong sense of community within the program. Through their leadership and collaboration, the council helps ensure that all choir events and activities run smoothly, while promoting teamwork, school spirit, and a shared commitment to musical excellence.
